Eagle numbered each engine consecutively as it came off the assembly line floor, regardless of horsepower or whether meant for tractor or stationary use. The only exception being the Model E series (20-35), that was given a distinct block of numbers even though built at the same time as the later Model H tractors and engines. The serial numbers were stamped on a brass tag mounted on the engine block and nothing has been found that the number was stamped elsewhere on the frame or other area.

Few numbers are known for the early gas engines, and none for the four cylinder series and Model D series tractors. The numbers offered for the Model F and 6A tractors are at best a rough guideline, but those for Model H, E, 6B, and 6C should be fairly accurate, although numbers at the start and end of each year could be off by one year.
